The Shoe

I remember my life before you
It was majestic
Everyday I laid on a high pedestal
For many to view and admire
‘Til the day my beauty captured your eyes
You shed just a portion of your pennies to trade for my slavery to you
When my value in your life would be more than gold
Then you caged me for your portability
and carried me like a gift
I symbolized a new journey for you

The first time you entered me came
I only covered your feet but carried your entire body
I protected you from rough textures of all walks of life
& made smooth paths even smoother
I lay lower than everything else
As if inferior to all
but yet I’m the root of your pride
You wear me on special occasions only
I symbolize your class, lifestyle and high grounds you walk on in life

Lately you enter me frequently
Occasions grow to be less special
Our moments together are not of the same past quality
Every time you enter your inferior extremities I lose shape
I’ve now become wrinkled with faded colour
I’ve succumbed to corrosion & smell of death
As you now dispose me because I’m an old shoe
I now symbolize memories that were once lived.
